Sefton Resources Says Was Not Aware Of Daniel Levi's Criminal Record

27th Jul 2015 16:10

LONDON (Alliance News) - Sefton Resources Inc said Monday that it can "categorically state" that neither the company nor its advisers has any prior knowledge of the criminal record of its former interim chairman, Daniel Levi.

At the time that it announced Levi's departure from the company in April, Sefton disclosed that Levi was formerly known as David John Hopkins.

Sefton said Monday that prior to and during his time as chairman, Levi had failed to disclose both his criminal record and his change in name. When his change of name came to the attention of the board, it was announced at the same time that it was announced that Levi had resigned from the board, Sefton said.

The statement on Monday followed an article in The Times newspaper detailing Hopkins' criminal record as a convicted armed robber "with a reputation for violence and for having links to Britain?s criminal underworld".

By not disclosing his previous name, Levi had breached the rules of AIM.

Sefton said Monday that it is "fully committed to best practice corporate governance".

"There is no suggestion that today's revelation has had or will have any impact on the company's corporate or operational activities," it said.

The company is currently embroiled in a dispute with former Executive Chairman Jim Ellerton, who earlier this month filed documentation in an attempt to "force the company into bankruptcy proceedings" after beginning legal proceedings in the US against the company in May.

Shares in the company closed down 3.3% at 0.0725 pence Monday.
