LONDON (Alliance News) - Seeing Machines Ltd said Monday that it has signed a strategic agreement with Electro-Motive Diesel Inc, a subsidiary of Progress Rail Services Corporation, a Caterpillar Company.
Seeing Machines is a technology company that develops computer vision-based operator monitoring and intervention technology services. The Seeing Machines Driver Safety System technology is based on patented eye-tracking and analytics that detects driver distraction and fatigue while on the job.
The contract with EMD will see the companies collaborate on in-cab operator fatigue and distraction monitoring systems for use in locomotives.
Seeing Machines said the three-year contract builds on a previously announced agreement with Caterpillar Global Mining and will allow the AIM-listed business and EMD to develop and adapt the technology for the rail industry.
"Our operator-facing cameras and accelerometer sensors provide key streams of data that are designed to help improve productivity and safety outcomes," said Seeing Machines Chief Executive Ken Kroeger. "I believe we are proving this in the challenging applications of mining, and we expect to achieve the same positive results working with EMD in rail transport. We also expect very positive follow on into our next horizon markets in road transport, commercial vehicles and aviation."
"There have been significant steps in recent years to enhance safety in the rail industry, and today's announcement builds upon those advancements. Working with Seeing Machines, we can develop the on-board technology designed to deliver enhanced safety to our customers and their fleets by ensuring operators remain alert while controlling the locomotive," added Progress Rail and EMD President and CEO, Billy Ainsworth.
Earlier this month Seeing Machines signed a memorandum of understanding with Samsung Electro-Mechanics Corporation, or SEMCo, a subsidiary of South Korea's Samsung Group. The MoU will see the pair collaborate on the development of face- and eye-tracking technology for the consumer electronics industry.
Shares in Seeing Machines were Monday trading 2.27% higher at 6.52 pence per share shortly after the market open.
