LONDON (Alliance News) - Scientific Digital Imaging PLC said on Monday it welcomes the further guidance from the UK Department of Health on the decontamination of surgical instruments as they believe it will benefit their product, ProReveal.
The new guidelines are concerned with the detection of protein levels on surgical instruments, an important means of minimising the transmission risk of Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease, a brain disorder. The Department of Health advised on Friday protein levels on a surgical instrument should be measured directly on the surface rather than by swabbing.
ProReveal allows protein to be tested for on surgical instruments by going through a washer disinfector process. The scientific technology design and manufacturing company expects the patented detection test to be widely used throughout hospitals in the UK following the new government guidelines.
"ProReveal, our highly sensitive fluorescence-based patented protein detection test, is the only marketed product of which we are aware that can adhere to these stringent guidelines. It allows the testing of the whole instrument for protein, rather than just a small, swabbed area, and will be invaluable to the Sterile Services Departments in hospitals throughout the UK and overseas," Said Ken Ford, Chairman of Scientific Digital Imaging.
Shares in Scientific Digital Imaging were up 8.1% on Monday morning at 10.00 pence.
