LONDON (Alliance News) - Sports nutrition company Science in Sport PLC Wednesday launched a mobile version of its website, as it taps into the convenience and growing trend of e-commerce sites specifically optimised for smartphones and tablets.
The launch of the mobile site, m.scienceinsport.com, follows the relaunch earlier this year of the company's main website as part of an initiative to create an e-commerce platform integrated into its manufacturing and supply facility in Lancashire.
Science in Sport develops, manufactures and markets sports nutrition products for professional athletes and sports enthusiasts.
"It's well known that the proportion of online shopping conducted on smartphones and tablets is growing very rapidly so we are excited by the launch of the mobile version of our website," Chief Executive Stephen Moon said in a statement.
"The mobile site represents an important part of the development of our e-commerce platform and will be integral to our planned digital marketing initiatives," he added.
Last month, Science in Sport said that revenue growth in its last financial year was ahead of market expectations, and announced that it raised GBP2.3 million before expenses in an oversubscribed share placing to fund further revenue growth and investments, part of which it would invest in its e-commerce platform.
Science in Sport said Wednesday that direct e-commerce sales continue to grow strongly, complementing the strong growth in its other distribution channels including major grocers, high street retail chains, independent retailers, e-commerce retailers and international distributors.
Shares in Science in Sport were trading 3.0% higher at 51.00 pence Wednesday morning.
