LONDON (Alliance News) - Savannah Resources Thursday said it has started a ground magnetic survey at the Jangamo heavy mineral sands project in Mozambique.
The minerals exploration and development company said a two-week ground geophysics programme is now underway at Jangamo in order to more precisely define the extent of heavy mineral sand zones at the site.
The company said the first step in the survey is to complete ground and airborne magnetic and ground radiometric surveys, scout drilling and resource definition drilling.
Savannah confirmed in March broad zones of heavy minerals at Jangamo following follow-up analysis of samples.
The company said at the time that assay results confirm broad intersections of heavy minerals of up to 39 metres deep with total heavy minerals of up to 3.5% including ilmenite, rutile and zircon.
"The primary objective of the ground magnetics is to further define the two mineralised dune systems with strike lengths of at least 6 kilometres and 10 kilometres outlined from last year's scout drilling campaign," Chief Executive David Archer said in a statement.
The company said that after the studies, it expects to start drilling proper in late May with an overall objective to define a first JORC Mineral Resource and start a scoping study for the site in the second half of 2014.
Savannah Resources shares were down 0.7% to 6.09 pence Thursday.
