LONDON (Alliance News) - J Sainsbury PLC said it is rolling out its Brand Match scheme, which compares the prices of thousands of branded products to rival supermarket Wal-Mart Stores Inc-owned Asda, to online orders from Wednesday.
The supermarket chain already operates Brand Match in stores, whereby customers receive a ticket at the end of their shop detailing how much money they have saved on branded products compared with at Asda. If it shows that the branded products they buy are better value at Asda, customers receive the difference in the form of a money-off coupon that can be redeemed in their next shop.
Sainsbury's said that it issued over 230 million Brand Match coupons in its last financial year, with over half showing a comparable branded shop at Sainsbury's was cheaper than at Asda. The supermarket said that it delivers nearly 215,000 online orders per week and that the scheme will work in the same way online as it does in store.
"Customers want to have peace of mind that they are getting good value as well as great Sainsbury?s quality. With Brand Match now available online, customers can be reassured that we're checking prices and doing the maths for them, online as well as in-store," Online Director Robbie Feather said.
"We?re committed to putting the customer at the heart of everything we do. Launching Brand Match online is part of the extensive work we?ve been doing to improve our website and our online service, being there for our customers whenever and wherever they want. This is good news for our shoppers and another important step in the growth of our GBP1 billion online business," he added.
Shares in Sainsbury's were trading up 0.1% at 253.70 pence Tuesday morning.
