Saga Makes Two New Senior Appointments Amid Refocused Strategy Shift

19th Nov 2019 10:49

(Alliance News) - Over-50s focused services firm Saga PLC said Tuesday it made two senior appointments as it continues to develop new strategy.

Cheryl Agius will join Saga from the start of 2020 as the chief executive officer of the Insurance unit. She will join from FTSE 100-listed insurer Legal & General PLC, where she was most recently the boss of its General Insurance business.

Gilles Normand will be appointed chief operating officer from next Monday. He joins from French insurance firm Covea, where he most recently served as the chief executive of its UK insurance unit Swinton. In his new role at Saga, Normand will lead the restructuring effort at the firm.

"These are two important appointments as we continue the transformation of Saga, and both Cheryl and Gilles will help drive the new strategy we announced in April," Chief Executive Officer Lance Batchelor said. "They both have strong and very relevant experience of strategic delivery and will build on the momentum we have already created."

In April, following poor full-year results, Saga announced plans to refocus on its "heritage as a direct-to-consumer brand" in providing differentiated products and services that customers cannot get elsewhere.

Shares in Saga were 1.2% lower at 54.05 pence in London on Tuesday.
