SABMiller Says Production Has Started At First Namibian Brewery

18th Sep 2014 07:56

LONDON (Alliance News) - SABMiller PLC Thursday said bottles of Carling Black Label have begun rolling off the packaging line at its first brewery in Namibia.

For the past two decades, the brewing giant has imported beers from South Africa to service the Namibian market, where it thinks it has a 22% market share.

It started building the new USD33 million, 260,000 hectolitre brewery in Okahandja in mid-2013 and expects to completely finish the facility at the end of October. It will brew brands including Castle Lager, Carling Black Label and Castle Lite at the brewery.

SABMiller owns 60% of its Namibian operation, with 40% owned by local Namibian partners. Half of the partner stake is owned by Onyewu Investments (Pty) Ltd and the rest by three charitable trusts run for the benefit of local communities.

SABMiller shares were down 0.3% at 3,565.00 pence in London early Thursday.
