SAB Miller Reappoints Manser As Acting Chairman After Mackay's Health Deteriorates

15th Nov 2013 08:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - Multinational beverage company SABMiller PLC Friday said Deputy Chairman John Manser has been re-appointed as acting chairman, due to deterioration in the health of Chairman Graham Mackay.

Mackay had returned to his duties at the beginning of September after taking medical leave to deal with a brain tumour, an illness that had prompted the company to accelerate the promotion of Alan Clark to chief executive ahead of its original timescale.

Manser was acting chairman for five months during Mackay's absence, then resumed his former position as deputy chairman and senior independent director.

SABMiller said Mackay had recovered sufficiently to return to his role as non-executive chairman in September. However, because of a recent sudden worsening of his condition, he will now take a further leave of absence.

SABMiller shares were quoted at the open Friday at 3,175.50 pence, down 4.00p.
