(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC on Wednesday recorded sharp traffic growth in July, flying 2 million more passengers than it did the same month before the Covid-10 pandemic.
The Dublin-based budget airline said passenger numbers surged by 81% to 16.8 million last month from 9.3 million a year earlier. Ryanair's July passenger numbers were its best so far this year, eclipsing June's 15.9 million. The latest figure also topped July 2019's pre-pandemic total of 14.8 million.
Ryanair said it operated 92,300 flights in July.
Rolling annual passenger numbers to July more than tripled to 142.0 million, from 40.0 million a year before.
Load factor last month was 96%, up slightly from 95% in June and greatly improved from 80% a year ago. On a rolling 12-month basis, load factor was 87%, up from 74% a year before.
The figures come as airports in the UK and Europe have suffered from long passenger queues, flight cancellations and delays, and lost luggage. Carriers, which cut jobs in the wake of the Covid pandemic, have struggled to cope with the quick pick-up in demand as restrictions were eased.
Shares in Ryanair were up 1.5% to EUR12.56 each in Dublin on Wednesday around midday.
