(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC and Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Tuesday both said they carried more passengers last month than a year before, with load factor flat for Ryanair but down slightly for Wizz Air.
Dublin-based Ryanair said it carried 13.3 million passengers on 75,000 flights in February, up 5.6% from 12.6 million a year before. Load factor was stable at 92%.
Over the rolling 12 months to February, the budget airline carried 207.6 million passengers, up 4.4% from 198.8 million a year prior. Load factor was similarly stable at 94%.
Budapest-based Wizz Air carried 4.9 million passengers last month, up 6.7% from 4.6 million a year before. However capacity had been increased by 8.3%, so load factor slipped to 90.5% from 91.8%.
In the rolling 12 months, Wizz carried 69.3 million passengers, up 9.9% from 63.1 million a year before. Load factor was 90.8%, down from 91.2%.
Wizz also reports its carbon emissions on a monthly basis. Emissions per passenger kilometre were down 1.2% on year in February and down 2.9% over the rolling 12-month period.
Wizz noted that it opened its 39th base last month, operating two A321neo aircraft from Palermo in Sicily. The company said it now has 10% of the Italian market, the second largest share.
Ryanair shares were down 2.8% to EUR26.15 in Frankfurt early Tuesday. Wizz Air was down 4.9% to 1,090.00 pence.
Travel stocks were being sold on Tuesday after the US attack on Iran threatened to trigger a wider conflict in the Middle East.
International Consolidated Airlines Group SA, owner of British Airways, was down 2.1% and Deutsche Lufthansa AG down 4.1%.
