(Alliance News) - Ryanair Holdings PLC and Wizz Air Holdings PLC on Thursday said they carried more passengers last month than a year before, with steady to improving load factors for the two budget airlines.
Dublin-based Ryanair said it carried 19.4 million passengers in September, up 1.6% from 19.1 million a year before. It operated 107,000 flights during the recent month with a 94% load factor, unchanged from September 2024.
On a rolling 12-month basis, Ryanair carried 203.9 million passengers, up 5.3% from 193.6 million a year before, also with an unchanged 94% load factor.
Ryanair on Tuesday had said it will not restart flights to Tel Aviv, having previously suspended flights to Israel. Ryanair said it had not received the assurances it required about landing slots and terminal fees.
Wizz Air on Thursday said it carried 6.3 million passengers in September, up 8.8% from 5.8 million a year before. As capacity was increased by only 7.6%, load factor improved to 92.8% from 91.7%.
On a rolling 12-month basis, Wizz Air carried 66.7 million passengers, up 7.0% from 62.3 million a year before, and load factor improved to 91.2% from 90.1%.
Wizz Air said its CO2 emissions per revenue passenger kilometre was 49.8 grams in September, staying below 50 grams for the second month in a row and down 4.8% from a year before. The decrease in emissions was thanks to the higher load factor and the airline's transition to Airbus SE's A321neo aircraft, it said.
Budapest-based Wizz Air also noted its recent announcement that it will close its base in nearby Vienna by March next year due to "unsustainable cost increases seen over recent years". Two of the five aircraft based in Vienna will be moved to Bratislava in Slovakia and the other three to other parts of the Wizz Air network.
Ryanair shares were up 0.6% to EUR24.43 in Frankfurt on Thursday morning. Wizz Air was up 2.3% to 1,176.00 pence in London.
