Royal Dutch Shell Starts Production At New Unit In US Gulf Coast

7th Jan 2019 14:32

LONDON (Alliance News) - Royal Dutch Shell PLC said Monday it started production of the fourth alpha olefins unit at its Geismar chemical manufacturing site in Louisiana, US.

The 425,000-tonne-per-year capacity expansion brings total alpha olefins production at Geismar to more than 1.3 million tonnes per year.

Alpha olefins are key ingredients in many finished products that people use and enjoy every day, including laundry detergents, motor oils and hand soaps, the company explained.

"This is a key growth project for Shell's global chemicals business. Geismar will continue to play a leading role in providing the materials for products that an increasing number of people need and enjoy," Graham van't Hoff, executive vice president for Shell's global chemicals business, said.

Shell's 'A' shares were trading down 0.7% at 2,352.00 pence, while its 'B' shares were down 0.9% at 2,378.50p on Monday afternoon.
