LONDON (Alliance News) - Oil major Royal Dutch Shell PLC on Tuesday announced the first shipment of gas from an offshore facility in Australia.
The Prelude floating liquefied natural gas facility's gas shipment is headed for customers in Asia, Shell said.
Prelude is located on a "remote" gas field 475 kilometres off the coast of Western Australia. It will produce 3.6 million tonnes of liquefied natural gas a year, and is operating by Shell in a joint venture with Japan's Inpex Corp, Korea Gas Corp, and US-based Overseas Private Investment Corp.
"Today's first shipment of LNG departed from Prelude, safely. Everyone involved should be very proud of the work taken to reach this important milestone," said Maarten Wetselaar, director of Integrated Gas & New Energies.
"Prelude forms an integral part of our global portfolio and plays an important role in meeting the growing demand for more and cleaner energy for our customers around the world."
