(Alliance News) - Rome Resources PLC on Tuesday said drilling operations have continued "uninterrupted" despite ongoing conflict in the eastern Democratic Republic of Congo.
The mining company operates a tin project at Bisie North in the province of North Kivu, of which Goma is the capital. Rwanda-backed rebel group M23 has captured the city, close to the eastern border, following weeks of advances.
The company said it has implemented "enhanced security measures" at the site, with transport supported by helicopters.
Rome Resources said it has moved its logistical base to Tshopo province capital Kisangani, 200 kilometres north-west of Bisie North, given the situation in Goma and nearby Bukavu.
"The proactive move ensures continued operational stability while maintaining a safe distance from the unrest along the Rwandan border," the company said.
It said it is focused on moving forward with exploration and expects to announce further assay results from the site in the next ten days.
Shares in Rome Resources were up 9.8% to 0.28 pence in London at midday on Tuesday.
