Rolls-Royce Wins GBP19 Million Tug Deck Machinery Contract

11th Apr 2014 08:42

LONDON (Alliance News) - Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC Friday said it has been awarded a GBP19 million contract to deliver deck machinery for four ocean going tugs.

The tugs, which will be used to tow large structures like oil rigs and floating production units over long distances, will be built in Japan by Niigata Shipbuilding & Repair for Dutch company ALP Maritime Services.

Rolls-Royce will provide equipment including a complete low pressure winch, a stern roller and rudder and steering gear. The towing/anchor handling winches are being specially developed in cooperation with the ship designer, Ulstein Design & Solutions, and the owner.

Intended for world-wide operations, the vessels will be delivered from Japan by the first quarter of 2016.

Rolls-Royce shares were down 2.1% at 1,038.00 pence Friday morning.
