LONDON (Alliance News) - Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC Wednesday said a decision by the Emirates airline to cancel an order for 70 Airbus A350 aircraft has knocked about 3.5%, or GBP2.6 billion, off its order book.
The aircraft engine maker was due to provide its Trent XWB engines for the aircraft.
In a statement, Rolls-Royce said it was disappointed with Emirates' decision, but was confident that the A350 delivery slots vacated by the Dubai-based airline would be taken up by other airlines.
"The order for 70 A350 aircraft was confirmed in 2007 as part of a larger USD8.4 billion announcement relating to a total of 120 Aircraft, all with TotalCare services. The options for the additional 50 aircraft, and the TotalCare contracts, were not included in the amount captured in our order book," Rolls-Royce said in a statement.
TotalCare is the engine after-care programme that Rolls-Royce can provide for its engines.
The aircraft had been due to start being delivered in 2019.
"Demand for the Airbus A350 remains strong, with more than 700 aircraft and 1,400 Trent XWB engines already sold," Rolls-Royce added.
