Rolls-Royce Jumps On Dreamliner Engine Deal

27th Mar 2014 11:05

LONDON (Alliance News) - Shares in Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC jumped Thursday after the firm said it has been selected by All Nippon Airways to provide its Trent 100 engines to power Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft.

Under the terms of the deal, worth GBP1.1 billion to Rolls-Royce, will see its engines used to power 25 Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft. Boeing already has 55 of the aircraft in service or on order, all powered by the Trent 1000.

The power systems and services provider said Trent 1000s have now completed over 220,000 in-service flying hours with an engine dispatch reliability of better than 99.9%.

Hiroyuki Ito, Senior Executive Vice President at ANA, said,"We are pleased to once again select the Trent 1000 to power this extension of our 787 Dreamliner fleet. It has served us very well through our entry into service and we have received excellent customer support throughout from Rolls-Royce."

ANA, Japan's largest airline group, said Thursday it would spend USD16.6 billion on 40 aircraft from Boeing Co and 30 from Airbus SAS, to be delivered between fiscal 2016 and fiscal 2027, to help increase the size of the airline's fleet to 250 planes.

"We are proud that ANA, the launch customer for the 787 Dreamliner, has continued to demonstrate its confidence in the performance and economics of the Trent 1000," said Dominic Horwood, Chief Customer Officer, Rolls-Royce, Civil Large Engines.

Shares in Rolls-Royce were trading 0.68% higher at 1,084.28 pence per share Thursday, in the top five gainers in the FTSE 100.
