LONDON (Alliance News) - Engineer Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC has announced a series of deals at the Farnborough airshow, including an order from Virgin Atlantic and a production contract for the F-35B Lightning II fighter jet.
The Farnborough International Airshow is taking place all this week, and a slew of aerospace orders already have been announced as part of the trade portion of the event.
Rolls-Royce said it has won a USD900.0 million order from transatlantic airline Virgin Atlantic for Trent XWB engines and TotalCare long-term maintenance services on 12 Airbus A350-100 jets.
Rolls-Royce also said it has signed a USD216.0 million production contract for the LiftSystems used to power lift capability in F-35B Lightning II jets. The contract is linked to the maintenance services deal the firm signed on Monday for the LiftSystem technology, part of a collaboration with Pratt & Whitney, a US aerospace manufacturer owned by United Technologies Corp.
In addition to this, Rolls-Royce said it is working with US technology giant Microsoft Corp to combine cloud computing, analytics and internet of things software with Rolls-Royce TotalCare aftermarket services business. Rolls-Royce said the move should increase its efficiency in resolving engine-related issues.
The deals all were announced late on Monday.
Rolls-Royce shares were down 0.6% to 719.5 pence Tuesday.
