11th Sep 2014 10:06

LONDON (Alliance News) - Rolls-Royce Holdings PLC Thursday said it has won a GBP19 million contract to supply deck machinery, propulsion and engines for a vessel being built by Norwegian shipbuilder Vard.

Rolls-Royce said the new offshore construction and anchor handling ship, being designed by Vard, is being built on behalf of owner REM Supply. Delivery of the vessel is scheduled for the first quarter of 2016.

The FTSE 100 aerospace and engineering group said the propulsion package will comprise main engines and generators, reduction gears, Promas integrated rudder and main propeller system with nozzle, tunnel thrusters, retractable thrusters, steering gear and Helicon X3 propulsion control system.

The deck machinery package consists of a three-drum 500 ton low pressure anchor handling winch, stern roller, anchor handling cranes, centring device, stop-pins and shark-jaws. All mechanical, hydraulic and electric systems are included, Rolls-Royce said.

Vard is majority owned by Italian shipbuilder FINCANTIERI SpA.

Rolls-Royce shares were down 0.6% to 1,021.93 pence on Thursday.
