LONDON (Alliance News) - Rio Tinto PLC said Wednesday it has appointed a former chairman of financial services company AMP Ltd as an independent non-executive director.
Simon McKeon will join the miner's board at the start of 2019. At present, he is a non-executive director at Spotless Group Holdings and Chancellor of Monash University in Australia.
McKeon is the previous chair of the Australian government's principal research and development body, the Commonwealth Scientific & Industrial Research Organisation.
He also had a 30 year career with bank Macquarie Group Ltd, including as executive chairman of its business in the Australian state of Victoria.
McKeon was named Australian of the Year in 2011 and is a contributor to numerous Australian charities.
