LONDON (Alliance News) - Richland Resources Ltd on Monday said pre-production mining has now started at the Capricorn Sapphire project in Queensland in Australia.
A drilling programme is now underway at the site to define the pit design and layout and to enable mine scheduling, Richland said. First production from Capricorn Sapphire is being targeted for May 2015, with the first sales under the Capricorn Sapphire brand to be made in June.
"Mining has started, and we are now readying Pit 1 for commercial production of sapphires in May 2015 and expect to start sales of sapphires in June," said Richland Chief Executive Bernard Olivier.
"Richland is approaching full mine start in a structured manner and following reports submitted by independent mining consultants we are undertaking infill drilling to help us finalise pit design," Olivier added.
