Rex Bionics Inks Robot-Assisted Physiotherapy Agreement With Hospital

6th May 2015 08:22

LONDON (Alliance News) - Rex Bionics PLC on Wednesday said it has signed a memorandum of understanding with The University Hospitals, Birmingham NHS Foundation Trust to explore the use of its REX Robot technology in critical care.

Under the agreement, the pair will work on using Rex's technology, used to enhance wheelchair users' mobility, in critical care. Rex said the project will be different from its perspective, as the technology will be used on patients who will not typically have a spinal cord injury or be using a wheelchair at the time of treatment.

Instead, the agreement will develop the use of Rex technology in robot-assisted physiotherapy. It will involve the creation of new robot-assisted physiotherapy treatment protocols and potentially will develop additional robot system functionality and intellectual property. Rex said it expects clinical evaluation to start as early as 2016.

Shares in Rex were untraded Wednesday, having last traded at 63.00 pence.
