REPEAT: RBS Confirms Matheson As Head Of Retail Banking Division

11th Feb 2014 11:50

LONDON (Alliance News) - Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC Tuesday said it has appointed Les Matheson as permanent chief executive of its UK Retail Banking division.

Matheson has been acting head since September when he stepped in on an interim basis after former head Ross McEwan was promoted to lead the group. In a statement, RBS said Tuesday that Matheson will become a member of its executive committee, which reports directly to McEwan.

Prior to replacing McEwan on an interim basis, Matheson was managing director for Products & Marketing across the retail bank.

McEwan said in the statement: "Les has done a great job leading the retail bank over recent months, bringing a wealth of banking and customer experience to the role. I am delighted that the best candidate came from within our bank. Les has successfully driven through important changes to make RBS a much simpler and more effective bank for our customers. I look forward to working closely with him in the months and years ahead as we shape the future of this bank, and put the customer at the core of everything we do."

RBS shares were Tuesday quoted at 339.56 pence, up 1.96 pence, or 0.6%.
