REPEAT: New World Resources Reports Fifth Fatality In Czech Mines

21st May 2014 15:17

LONDON (Alliance News) - New World Resources PLC Wednesday said a 46-year old worker has died in a mine owned by its Czech mining subsidiary OKD, with an enquiry already underway into the incident.

In a statement, the hard coal producer said the worked died approximately 1,000 metres underground at OKD's Karvina Mine.

It is the fifth death announced by New World Resources at its operations during 2013 and so far in 2014. In April, the mining company said a 41-year-old worker died at the surface workplace of OKD's Darkov Mine.

New World Resources said members of the District Mining Authority in Ostrava, Karvina Mine management, OKD management, the OKD Trade Unions representatives, and the police of the Czech Republic have formed an investigative committee and are conducting an enquiry into the accident.

New World Resources expressed its "deepest condolences to the families, relatives and friends of the deceased worker."

New World Resources shares were Wednesday quoted at 29.00 pence, down 3.3%.
