LONDON (Alliance News) - Miner Lonmin PLC on Tuesday said it has hired Barrie van der Merwe as an executive director and its new chief financial officer, effective from May 17.
Van der Merwe is the former chief financial officer of Debswana Diamond Co Pty Ltd, a joint venture between the Botswana government and De Beers, the diamond arm of Anglo American PLC.
Prior to that, he held a series of financial management positions with Anglo American and Anglo Platinum Ltd.
His appointment comes a week after Simon Scott said he would step down as Lonmin's chief financial officer to pursue other interests.
Lonmin shares were up 5.4% to 165.75 pence on Tuesday.
