19th Jun 2015 14:49

LONDON (Alliance News) - London Stock Exchange Group PLC Friday named Donald Brydon, the current chairman of Royal Mail PLC and formerly of the London Metal Exchange, to take on the same role at the bourse.

London Stock Exchange Group has been looking for a successor to Chris Gibson-Smith since last July, when he said he would be leaving the group.

"It has been an honour and a pleasure to have been chairman of London Stock Exchange Group at such a pivotal time in its long and esteemed history. The group has transformed, to become an international market infrastructure organisation, defined by its partnership approach, its clear and focused strategy and its growth," Chris Gibson-Smith said in a statement.

Gibson-Smith will step down on July 1, but will be available to advise the board until the end of August.

"Being asked to become chairman of one of the world's most respected and ambitious financial organisations is a real privilege. I am looking forward to working with a great team and playing my part in helping guide London Stock Exchange Group to further success," Brydon said in a statement.

Brydon is leaving the role of chairman at Royal Mail in August. He has been the chairman of business software company Sage Group PLC since 2012.
