Renewable Energy Generation Welsh Wind Farm Wins Planning Permission

13th Jul 2015 09:07

LONDON (Alliance News) - Renewable Energy Generation Ltd Monday said its nine-megawatt Abergorki Wind Farm in Wales has been granted planning permission.

The project, which comprises of three wind turbines, was approved by Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.

The council's decision is subject to a six-week legal challenge period, the company said.

Renewable Energy Generation said it is in talks with the UK Department of Energy and Climate Change on the project's eligibility for the grace period under the Renewable Obligation regime, the main support mechanism for renewable electricity projects in the UK.

In June, UK Secretary of State for Climate Change Amber Rudd said she would scrap the Renewables Obligation which is the primary of three subsidies for onshore wind farms, claiming the country has enough onshore wind in the pipeline.

Until April 2016, the government has allowed a grace period for companies which would continue to give access to support under the Renewables Obligation to those projects which already have planning consent, a grid connection offer and acceptance, and evidence of land rights for the site on which their project will be built.

"Abergorki will be a significant addition to our portfolio as it is extremely well placed to harness the excellent wind resource in this part of South Wales. It is also gratifying to achieve a resolution to grant consent at local authority level, demonstrating that well-sited wind farms can offer benefits to local communities and attract strong local support," Chief Executive Andrew Whalley said in a statement.

On Friday, Renewable Energy Generation had said it had been granted planning permission for its Mynydd Brombil wind farm near Swansea in Wales.

Shares in Renewable Energy Generation were up 0.2% at 48.85 pence on Monday morning in London, where they trade on the AIM junior market.
