Renewable Energy Generation Gets Planning Permission For Wind Farm

10th Jul 2015 08:53

LONDON (Alliance News) - Renewable Energy Generation Ltd Friday said it has been granted planning permission for its Mynydd Brombil wind farm near Swansea in Wales.

The 8 megawatt onshore wind farm will be in addition to the company's five other farms that have planning permission due to come online over the next 18 months with a combined capacity of 38 megawatts, meaning a further 46 megawatts will be added to its portfolio in total once the Mynydd Brombil is added.

That is part of Renewable Energy Generation's broader plan to increase its capacity to 300 megawatts over the next three years from its current capacity of 111 megawatts.

"We now have a pipeline of 140 megawatts of consented renewable energy projects at various stages of procurement and construction which, once commissioned, will increase Renewable Energy Generation's total generating capacity to over 250 megawatts," said the company.

The Mynydd Brombil wind farm will be made up of four wind turbines and was awarded planning permission after a public inquiry was held in May.

"With multiple projects at various stages of development, I look forward to providing further updates on our progress as we look to build a leading independent renewable energy provider in the UK," said the company.

The company is one of many firms racing to get projects that are currently under development approved before the government scraps the main subsidy for onshore wind farms in April 2016.

In June, UK Secretary of State for Climate Change Amber Rudd said she would scrap the Renewables Obligation which is the primary of three subsidies for onshore wind farms, claiming the country has enough onshore wind in the pipeline.

Until April, the government has allowed a grace period for companies which would continue to give access to support under the Renewables Obligation to those projects which already have planning consent, a grid connection offer and acceptance, and evidence of land rights for the site on which their project will be built.

Renewable Energy Generation said it is currently in discussions with the Department of Energy and Climate Change on the Mynydd Brombil onshore wind farm's eligibility for the proposed revision to grace periods under the Renewable Obligation regime.

Renewable Energy Generation shares were down 5.4% to 48.50 pence per share on Friday morning.
