Renewable Energy Generation Gets Permission For Hallburn Wind Farm

23rd Jun 2014 09:04

LONDON (Alliance News) - Renewable Energy Generation Ltd Monday said it has been granted planning permission by Carlisle City Council for its six-turbine Hallburn wind farm near Longtown in Cumbria.

The UK renewable energy group said the 12-megawatt project is expected to enter construction in 2015, subject to the expiry of a six-week legal challenge period.

It said that formal planning permission is expected to follow shortly.

"Hallburn benefits from an excellent wind speed and a 12-megawatt project will be an extremely productive addition to our portfolio of operating assets," said Chief Executive Andrew Whalley in a statement.

Ealier this month, the company said that the UK Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government Eric Pickles had exercised his right to call-in its previously approved eight-megawatt French Farm wind farm extension. It said that the project's future will now be determined at a public inquiry, overseen by the Planning Inspectorate.

The planned extension was for four additional turbines at the site, which would bring its capacity to 12 megawatts, with an annual energy output of 28.5 gigawatt hours, making it one of the company's most productive wind farms.

Renewable Energy Generation shares were trading 0.6% lower Monday morning at 66.10 pence.
