RedT To Develop Hybrid Energy Storage System With Newcastle University

7th Sep 2016 07:57

LONDON (Alliance News) - Energy storage technology firm RedT Energy PLC on Wednesday said it will work with Newcastle University on creating a hybrid energy storage system.

Backed by a GBP149,062 funding grant from partners of the UK body Innovate UK, the three-year project will aim to create a system using RedT's flow energy storage machine, typically used for long-duration applications, with a short-duration energy storage technology, like lead acid, lithium batteries or super capacitors.

"Hybridisation holds a promising future for energy storage, and an area which requires research in order to identify the best power intensive technologies to work with vanadium energy storage machines, particularly to optimise the electrical control management of these complementary technologies to deliver a hybrid commercial storage system," said Scott McGregor, RedT's chief executive.

Shares in RedT were up 1.4% to 8.24 pence on Wednesday.
