LONDON (Alliance News) - Reckitt Benckiser Group PLC Wednesday said it is "no longer in active discussions" regarding an offer for Merck's consumer health business.
Just two days ago the UK-based consumer goods giant had said it was in talks with Merck over the purchase.
It had warned that it was part of a competitive process and that there was no certainty as to the outcome of the process.
Media reports had Monday suggested that both Reckitt Benckiser and German conglomerate Bayer AG each offered around USD14 billion or over EUR10 billion for the Merck unit and were said to have emerged as frontrunners in the bid.
Reckitt Benckiser shares Wednesday closed at 4,774.52 pence, down 1.5%.
