LONDON (Alliance News) - Royal Bank of Scotland Group PLC Wednesday said it has corrected a problem that reportedly caused hundreds of thousands of payments to go amiss.
Payments were delayed for customers of the group's Royal Bank of Scotland, NatWest and Ulster Bank brands.
According to accounts for RBS Help, NatWest Help and Ulster Bank Help on social media site twitter.com, the "underlying issue" has been fixed.
Payments and some direct debits had been affected by the difficulties.
All three twitter accounts said the banks "are working flat out to get these payments updated for affected customers no later than Saturday".
"We apologise for the inconvenience caused and will ensure no customers are left out of pocket as a result of this issue," the tweets continued.
According to BBC and Sky News reports, about 600,000 transactions were affected.
RBS was fined GBP42 million in November 2014 by the UK's Financial Conduct Authority and GBP14 million by the Bank of England's Prudential Regulation Authority due to an IT failure in 2012 that meant millions of UK customers were left struggling to access their accounts.
