LONDON (Alliance News) - Randgold Resources Ltd Wednesday said it has tightened its health precautions in the wake of the Ebola virus outbreak in West Africa, even though its operations are some way away from the affected areas.
In a statement, the company said it has embarked on a thorough awareness campaign about the disease for all its workers, all its employees have been advised not to travel to the affected areas and contractors have been instructed not to bring any workers from these areas onto the company's sites.
This comes after the World Health Organisation Tuesday said the number of ebola cases in the region has increased, with nearly 900 dead from the disease since the outbreak started in Guinea in February. It has since spread to Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria.
"The company continues to monitor the situation closely through the various international and national health organisations," Randgold said.
Rangold shares closed up 3.0% at 5,155.00 pence Wednesday.
