Quadrise inks joint development deal with Licella on sustainable fuels

26th Mar 2025 13:56

(Alliance News) - Quadrise PLC on Wednesday said it has signed a joint development deal with Australian sustainable fuels firm Licella Holdings Ltd.

The supplier of emulsion technology, fuels and biofuels for the power generation, shipping and industrial sectors said the agreement will see the two companies collaborating on the further development of Licella's catalytic hydrothermal reactor.

Licella's Cat-HTR uses water at high temperature and pressure to transform abundant biomass residues into a bio-intermediate, low-carbon alternative to fossil oil.

Under the terms of the deal, Quadrise and Licella will look into the use of the Cat-HTR as a potential cost-effective renewable feedstock for Quadrise's bioMSAR and bioMSAR zero fuels.

Initial lab testing at the Quadrise research facility is expected to lead to lab-scale diesel engine tests within 12 months, further to which potential commercial vessel testing of the fuel would be targeted for 2026.

"Quadrise is delighted to have signed this JDA with Licella," said Quadrise Chief Executive Officer Jason Miles. "Fuels derived from biomass are potentially the most price competitive net-zero biofuel solutions, and HTL technology has been identified by the Maersk Mc-Kinney Moller Center for Zero Carbon Shipping and others as one of the most viable production pathways for marine biofuels."

Shares in Quadrise were down 0.5% at 3.86 pence in London on Wednesday afternoon. The stock has more than tripled from 1.27p over the past year.
