Qinetiq wins communications contract with UK Ministry of Defence

(Alliance News) - Qinetiq Group PLC on Friday announced it has won a three-year contract with the Defence Digital unit of the UK Ministry of Defence.

The Farnborough, Hampshire-based defence technology company said the contract holds a potential value of GBP150 million, with an initial contract award of GBP39 million. It also included extension options of up to two years.

Defence Digital is responsible for ensuring that the UK military has access to effective digital products and services. The contract is part of its land environment tactical communications & information systems programme, which is designed to enable the British Army to make better-informed and more timely decisions on the front line.

Qinetiq will provide expertise in areas such as programme & project management, cost engineering, approvals, network security and safety engineering.

Qinetiq Chief Executive of UK Intelligence James Willis said: "In this digital era, reliable and robust communications are the bedrock of an operationally effective fighting force. As a trusted partner to the UK military, we are delighted to continue to support development and delivery of this vitally important programme that enables our Armed Forces to defend our nation, safely and securely."

Shares in Qinetiq were down 0.9% at 442.60 pence each in London on Friday morning.
