LONDON (Alliance News) - UK defence services company QinetiQ Group PLC said its North American unit has won a USD16.0 million contract with California-based General Atomics to work on equipment for the John F Kennedy aircraft carrier for the US Navy.

FTSE 250-listed QinetiQ will handle the control hardware and software for the Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System and Advanced Arresting Gear which will be installed on the carrier.

"QinetiQ North America is honoured to once again be working with General Atomics to begin production on the second ship in the Ford-class, CVN 79. We are proud to play a role in providing the Navy with this latest technology that will increase reliability, improve operational efficiencies and significantly decrease lifecycle costs," said Andrew Courier, the director of maritime systems at QinetiQ North America.
