(Alliance News) - PureTech Health PLC said Monday Chair Joichi Ito stepped down from the company amid "circumstances related to the MIT Media Lab", with Non-Executive Director Christopher Viehbacher becoming interim chair.
Ito left PureTech due to the company deeming it "appropriate" amid the "circumstances related to the MIT Media Lab", PureTech Chief Executive Officer Daphne Zohar said.
Ito had been the head of the Media Lab at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, but resigned over the weekend after the New Yorker uncovered financial ties with billionaire and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
Viehbacher - a former CEO of French drugmaker Sanofi SA - will replace Ito as interim chair.
Shares in PureTech were 2.4% lower at 272.43 pence in London on Monday.
