Prudential raises dividend on strong first half performance

27th Aug 2025 04:16

(Alliance News) - Prudential PLC on Wednesday reported stellar results for the first half of 2025, supported by strong insurance and investment performance, leaving the company confident in its ability to achieve its financial targets.

The Hong Kong-based insurance and asset management company said attributable net profit multiplied to USD1.28 billion in the six months to June 30 from USD120 million a year earlier. Diluted earnings per share rose to 49.1 US cents from 4.4 cents previously.

The insurance service result grew 16% to USD1.24 billion from USD1.07 billion, while the company's net investment result surged to USD896 million from USD167 million.

Prudential raised its interim dividend by 13% to 7.71 cents per share from 6.84 cents.

Non-insurance expenditure declined 8.5% to USD487 million from USD532 million, and other revenue declined 4.1% to USD189 million from USD197 million.

Chief Executive Officer Anil Wadhwani commented: "We are pleased with our strong performance in the first half of 2025, delivering double-digit growth across our key metrics in line with the guidance we gave earlier in the year. We have reached the inflection point in our capital generation, enabling us to update our capital management programme and increase shareholder returns, which validates our business model and its ability to generate sustainable cash returns.

"Reflecting our strategic progress and investments in the growth drivers of the business, we are confident we will carry this momentum into the second half and beyond, keeping us firmly on track to achieve our 2027 financial objectives."

Prudential shares closed down 2.2% at 976.80 pence each in London on Tuesday, while shares were 1.2% higher at HKD104.00 in Hong Kong on Wednesday morning.
