Proton Power Systems Secures Fuel Cell Order From Italy's Fincantieri

2nd Dec 2019 14:41

(Alliance News) - Fuel cell firm Proton Power Systems PLC on Monday announced an order from Italian shipbuilding firm Fincantieri SpA.

Proton Power will provide a 38 kilowatt fourth-generation fuel cell, which could be used on a vessel that Trieste-based Fincantieri is building.

The order, Proton Power noted, includes a feasibility study for the use of the fuel cell on both the initial ship as well as on future vessels. No financial details were provided.

Proton Power's Chief Executive Faiz Nahab said: "This is excellent news, with Proton having been the world's first fuel cell system provider that has powered a ferry in Hamburg for six years with a 50 kilowatt fuel cell system, this is a great opportunity to enter the maritime market at the ship building stage."

Last week, the company signed a letter of intent with Germany's APEX Energy Teterow GmbH to provide ten fuel-cell containers.

Proton Power shares were 8.9% higher on Monday afternoon in London at 22.88 pence each.
