LONDON (Alliance News) - WPP PLC is understood to have formally entered the race to acquire a majority stake in Dunnhumby, the customer data business owned by Tesco PLC, The Daily Telegraph reported on Saturday.
The Telegraph, citing "well-placed sources", said WPP is keen to acquire Dunnhumby's database of shopping habits, which began with the creation of Tesco's Clubcard loyalty scheme.
The move by WPP would mark a signal that the advertising and marketing company is to increasingly focus on data-driven advertising and marketing.
Tesco shares were up 3% to 239.861 pence on Monday, the best performer in the FTSE 100 in early afternoon trade. WPP shares were down 0.6% to 1,554.5 pence.
