LONDON (Alliance News) - Vodafone Group PLC is set to add its voice to the mounting calls for a break-up of BT Group PLC, separating its Openreach network infrastructure arm, part of wider market reforms ahead of a regulatory review of the communications industry in the UK, the Financial Times reported.
Ofcom, the media and communications regulator, is due Thursday to close a consultation into a review of the sector, which will set the regulatory framework for the next decade.
The structure of BT has become a magnet for complaints as rivals rely on its infrastructure to deliver broadband services.
Vodafone is set to argue that BT has generated GBP6.5 billion in "excessive profit" in the past ten years from Openreach, which it thinks gives BT an advantage over its rivals which also offer broadband services. It wants Ofcom to pursue a full break-up of BT.
