PRESS: Vodafone Promises Customers Will Not Pay Erroneous Roaming Fees

14th Oct 2019 15:17

(Alliance News) - Vodafone Group PLC confirmed that customers will not have to pay hefty roaming charges wrongly received over the weekend, the Sun reported on Monday.

The telecom firm's customers were sent roaming bills as high as GBP10,000, according to the Sun, for mobile phone usage abroad. This was despite minimal usage in some cases and a number of those customers having already signed up for roaming packages.

The newspaper reported that some customers' mobile phones "stopped working over the weekend with no explanation", followed by account notifications with high roaming charges.

The Sun included a statement from Vodafone, which said that the lack of data and calls while roaming had been caused by "a technical error" and had been fixed.

"Some customers are receiving billing messages in error; we are working through these as an urgent priority and removing any errors from customer accounts," the statement read. "Customers will not be charged and do not need to worry about contacting us as we are proactively checking accounts and fixing any issues."
