LONDON (Alliance News) - US consular officials have expressed concern that they would not be allowed to attend the trial of the investigator who was hired by GlaxoSmithKline PLC and his wife, The Financial Times reported Friday.
The officials were informed that they would not be allowed to attend the trial of Peter Humphrey and his wife, despite the fact that under the 1982 bilateral consular convention between US and China officials are permitted to attend trials of this nature, the report said.
Humphrey's company, ChinaWhys, was hired by Glaxo to investigate a potential a sex tape featuring China executive Mark Reilly which surfaced in an email alleging bribery.
Humphrey was arrested shortly after delivering his report about former staff member Vivian Shi Wen, who was suspected to be the whistle-blower, by Chinese authorities.
