PRESS: Unilever Investors Seek Changes Over Failed Restructuring

8th Oct 2018 06:59

LONDON (Alliance News) - Unilever PLC's shareholders have called for the company's Chairman Marijn Dekkers to be removed over the company's u-turn on proposals for a single head office in the Netherlands, the Daily Mail Newspaper reported Sunday.

The consumer goods giant on Friday scrapped its plan to simplify the company's dual-headed structure, which included moving its headquarters to the Netherlands from the UK.

The company, behind brands such as Hellmann's mayonnaise and Dove soap, said that a lack of support from "a significant group of shareholders" made it "appropriate" to withdraw from the simplification plan.

According to the newspaper, one of the company's top-ten shareholders claimed that Dekkers had allowed himself to be "dazzled" by Chief Executive Paul Polman who masterminded the move.

The shareholder added that "nothing was off the table" when it came to Dekkers and that a "fresh perspective" was needed at Unilever.
