PRESS: UK Newspaper Groups In Talks For Advertising Sales Venture - FT

20th Jun 2016 10:25

LONDON (Alliance News) - Several of the UK's newspaper groups are in talks for a potential ad sales venture in an effort to counteract falling print advertising revenues, the Financial Times reported Sunday, citing senior newspaper executives.

The options being explored include a single advertising sales operation, with talks so far involving the Telegraph Media Group Ltd, Trinity Mirror PLC and Rupert Murdoch's News UK & Ireland Ltd, which owns the Times, the Sunday Times and The Sun.

The report said it was not clear if Daily Mail & General Trust PLC, or Guardian Media Group PLC, are involved in the talks. A spokesperson for Daily Mail & General Trust declined to comment to Alliance News.

The talks are aimed at tackling the fall in print advertising in recent years.

"We will always fight each other at the newsstands and for the best stories. But in the background there are many ways we can come together to present a more powerful voice to the advertising industry," said Chief Executive of Trinity Mirror Simon Fox.
