PRESS: UK Energy Comparison Sites Questioned By MPs About Commissions

3rd Feb 2015 13:52

LONDON (Alliance News) - The big five energy comparison sites, including Moneysupermarket.com PLC and Admiral PLC's Confused.com, have said they earn up to GBP60 in commission every time a customer switches provider, the BBC reported Tuesday.

The figures emerged as members of parliament on the Energy Select Committee questioned the bosses of the five major comparison sites about the fees they receive, said the BBC.

The websites earn up to GBP30 in commission when a customer changes gas or electric, and up to GBP60 in commission if customers switch both their gas and electricity provider.

Moneysupermarket said it charges energy suppliers GBP29 on average, which it described as fair, the BBC reported.

The other companies classed in the "big five energy comparison sites" are Uswitch, Compare the Market, Esure's Go Compare and Admiral's Confused.com.
