PRESS: Tobacco Giants Start Case Opposing UK Packaging Rules - FT

11th Dec 2015 12:27

LONDON (Alliance News) - Four major tobacco companies have kicked-off a High Court challenge against the UK government over the legality of new packaging rules, the Financial Times reported.

The new rules, due to come into force in May next year, will ban companies from using any logos or branding on packets of tobacco products.

The four companies - Philip Morris International, British American Tobacco PLC, Imperial Tobacco Group PLC and Japan Tobacco International - claim the new rules run counter to European Union and UK law and will deprive them of their intellectual property and business goodwill without providing any compensation.
