LONDON (Alliance News) - Tesco PLC is set to launch its first discount shop, Jack, next week in Chatteris, Cambridgeshire, The Times reported on Wednesday.
The biggest UK supermarket chain had announced plans to launch the new grocery chain at the end of July in a bid to challenge German discounters Lidl and Aldi.
The Times said that Tesco will hold a media day on Wednesday next week in which the chain told reporters it will be "sharing some exciting news", without confirming further details.
The newspaper added that Tesco started advertising for staff for a new "store format" in Chatteris. The chain said it was looking for retail assistants, customer service and managers.

Back in July, The Guardian reported that Tesco was planning to open up to 60 discount stores as early as September.
Tesco was founded in 1919 by Jack Cohen as a group of market stalls.
