PRESS: Takeda Pharma Makes Takeover Proposal For Shire - Reuters

19th Apr 2018 12:21

LONDON (Alliance News) - Japanese pharmaceutical group Takeda Pharmaceutical Co Ltd made a takeover offer for Irish drugmaker Shire PLC, Reuters published on Thursday.

Reuters reported Takeda has made an indicative takeover proposal to Shire worth about GBP46.50 a share, according to two sources, one of which has direct knowledge of the matter. Shire shares were up 6.8% at 4,008.50p, the best performer in the FTSE 100 on Thursday.

Shire shares have made significant gains since the start of the week, rising 11%, amid speculation Takeda was moving closer to making an imminent bid for the company, having confirmed it was "considering making an approach" for the Irish drugmaker at the end of March.

Shire on Monday agreed to sell its Oncology business to France-based pharmaceutical company Servier SAS for USD2.4 billion in cash.
